Green Shift: Circularity of Plastic Waste for Net-Zero Carbon Nepal (GreenShift Nepal) is funded by the European Union to promote a just transition to a circular economy. The project is led by CREASION with consortium partners Restless Development and Youth Innovation Lab (YI-LAB). GreenShift Nepal works with waste enterprises, SMEs, CSOs of waste workers, youths, school children, and three tiers of government. The project builds the capacity of waste enterprises to improve plastic waste collection efficiency; supports SMEs for plastic alternative products and packaging; works with school children in generating knowledge and awareness; engages youths in advocacy and awareness campaigns; and enhances government capacity for inclusive, evidence-based policies. Key components include Waste Smart Fellowship, Climate Smart Schools, National Plastic Recycling Policy, and empowering waste workers through CSOs.
Focus Areas

Plastic Waste Management
The main objective of this focus area is to promote the effective management of exisiting plastic waste. The project will work with private waste enterprises to enhance their capacity for plastic waste collection, processing, and recycling. This will further help to prevent plastic waste leakage into the environment and divert them into the product value chain.
Innovation around non-plastic packaging, and promotion of green enterprises
The goal of this focus area is to create opportunities for business and enterprises to develop and promote plastic alternative products including packaging to promote the transition to circular economy. This will further help in reducing plastic consumption, lowering plastic waste generation.
Supporting advocacy, data and policy changes
The goal of this focus area is to engage key stakeholders in developing inclusive and evidence-based policies and support youths and school children in awareness and advocacy.
