Funded by the European Union under GreenShift Nepal’s Financial Support for Third Parties (FSTP) grant, one-day Occupational Health and Technology Use training sessions were conducted across six private waste enterprises, reaching 127 waste workers, machine operators, and enterprise owners.
The trainings focused on strengthening workplace safety and technical capacity within recycling enterprises. Participants received practical orientation on occupational health and safety measures, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), first aid, fire safety, emergency response procedures, safeguarding principles, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), grievance redress mechanisms, and safe machine operation and troubleshooting.
The initiative addressed critical skill gaps among workers who had transitioned from waste collection and segregation roles into machine operation without formal technical training. By equipping workers with essential safety protocols and operational knowledge, the training helped reduce workplace risks and improve operational efficiency.
Through this support, participating enterprises are strengthening safer and more inclusive working environments while enhancing plastic recovery efforts and contributing to Nepal’s transition toward a circular economy.
