It began with a simple yet powerful question: “Do you know your plastic?”
Across public schools in the Kathmandu Valley, classrooms transformed into spaces of curiosity and discovery. Students who once saw plastic as just another everyday material began to question it: What is it made of? Why does it harm the environment? What can we do differently?
Through the Climate Smart Schools initiative under the CSC Project, these questions sparked meaningful conversations. The “Know Your Plastic” sessions introduced students to different types of plastics, their environmental impacts, and the importance of responsible use and disposal. What made these sessions truly impactful was the enthusiasm and curiosity students brought to learning.
The journey didn’t stop there. With the formation of Climate Smart Clubs, students moved from learners to leaders, taking ownership, participating in oath-taking ceremonies, and organizing activities to promote environmental awareness and improved waste practices within their schools.
Supported by Climate Smart Kits, educational materials, and guidance, these young changemakers are building habits that extend beyond the classroom, encouraging peers, influencing communities, and advocating for a more sustainable future.

This is how change takes root, not in a single moment but through small, consistent actions. One question, one classroom, and one student at a time.
