An annual photography and storytelling contest that celebrates trees with significant natural, cultural, and community value in Nepal.

Tree of the Year Nepal is an annual photography and storytelling contest that celebrates trees with significant natural, cultural, and community value across Nepal. The contest highlights winning photographs selected for their compelling narratives about individual trees and their importance to local communities, ecosystems, and cultural heritage.

The initiative recognizes trees that have played crucial roles in environmental restoration, community resilience, and cultural identity. Past winners have featured remarkable trees such as the Sami tree (Ficus Benjamina) in Joginiya, Saptari, which helped regenerate soil and restore fertility to land devastated by the 2008 Koshi river dam flood.

The contest serves as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of trees in Nepal's diverse ecosystems, promote environmental conservation, and celebrate the deep connection between communities and their natural heritage. Through storytelling and photography, Tree of the Year Nepal inspires greater appreciation for trees and encourages conservation efforts across the country.
