Reconstruction of Shree Siddhi Ganesh Primary School, Sindhupalchowk
Ceasion is rebuilding Shree Siddhi Ganesh Primary School in Majhigaun, Sindupalchowk with the financial support from Association for Nepal Synapse Self-reliance Support in Japan (ANSSSJ).
Majhigaun is a small village located on a hill 4 km before Melamchi in Sindupalchowk. Majhigaun is a very poor village of 90 Majhi families. Majhis are highly marginalized indigenous ethnic people. Most of the families have very little fertile land and make their living from daily labor. The women make up 80 percent of current population who are dependent on domestic liquor making for their livelihood. There are many deaths due to consumption of such domestic liquors.
The prevalent alcohol making and people having to live under poverty line is because of lack of awareness and education. And in a community like Majhigaun, the parents cannot afford their children’s education whose earnings are barely enough to feed themselves. So, encouraging their children to get educated is the best and the most needed intervention. Thus, facilitating the existing school and developing basic infrastructures will help the Majhi people to redeem from poverty.
The earthquake destroyed all houses in the village along with the primary school. A temporary school has been built by an NGO. However a permanent building is needed to provide the children with a favorable learning space for their proper growth and development.
The school has classes from Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) till grade 3 with a total of 62 students. The school has plans to extend the classes further till grade 5 once the students graduate for which there is lack of infrastructure.
