Waste Workers Emergency Relief Project Day 14

The fourteenth distribution of the Waste Workers Emergency Relief Project was successfully concluded on 8th June, 2020 for 45 waste workers in three different sites. The first distribution was conducted for waste workers of Bhaktapur. Four waste workers were provided with ration materials and three were provided with safety gears. It was conducted for the waste workers in Recycler Saathi’s network.

Having Dr. Nimesh as a part of the Waste Workers Emergency Relief Project was a huge reassurance to the entire team about their safety.

The participants of the meeting discussed and agreed upon the following measures:

  1. Waste segregation program should be conducted in every ward/ tole
  2. Installation of waste collection centres at different sites
  3. Capacity development training should be organized primarily for women about reuse of plastic waste
  4. Waste handling training should be conducted
  5. Awareness raising training to waste workers on the impact of waste on human health

The second distribution was conducted in Teku, Kathmandu for 11 waste workers who were provided with safety gears. For the third distribution in Dhalku, 27 waste workers were reached out with ration materials. It was conducted in the facilitation of Blue Waste to Value (BW2V)

Along with the distributions, they were also provided with awareness sessions and demonstrations on the right use and removal of the protective jumpsuits.
